Application Fluent Technology for Multi-Site Data Centers

As enterprises inevitably migrate toward a private/hybrid cloud computing model, they need a network architecture optimized to meet the requirements of a virtualized application environment.

On Access's application fluent data center solution leverages its Mesh architecture to deliver the elasticity and scalability needed to support the multi-site data centers that power private clouds, all while preserving desired levels of control and security.

The application fluent approach provides private clouds with a unified management platform that delivers competitive advantage by enabling end-to-end visibility across all switches from a single location. Single policy frameworks for quality of service and security provide consistent application performance regardless of network demands. And key partnerships with leading IT vendors promise to further optimize application performance and service delivery in virtualized enterprises

Two components play a large part in the ability of the On Access solution to optimize a multi-site data center network: Shortest Path Bridging and Virtual Network Profiles.

Shortest Path Bridging

In order to take full advantage of a multi-site data center, it's critical to be able to move data traffic along the shortest possible route through the network while retaining redundancy and capacity. Shortest Path Bridging, or SPB, uses a complete picture of the network to ensure that traffic takes as few "hops" as possible to reach its destination. It also is the protocol On Access is actively supporting as a standard for network virtualization.

Not only does SPB reduce—or even eliminate—network bottlenecks, it also allows an enterprise to stop investing in redundant network links and enables the network to be designed to more effectively meet the needs of the enterprise.

Virtual Network Profiles

A collection of provisioning requirements, security profiles, QoS expectations, application priorities and latency/jitter thresholds, Virtual Network Profiles, or vNPs, enable the network to manage applications as services, understanding their needs and automatically adapting to ensure optimized performance.

With this knowledge, vNPs are able to discover the locations of virtual machines, bind each profile to specific virtual machines, and then provision the network to best meet the needs of that particular application.

With the On Access application fluent data center solution, enterprises can use vNPs to move virtual machines among multiple data center sites, providing additional flexibility and agility.
